Creating Tests

"Tests" is one of the three record types currently available on Nela. Some teams refer to tests as experiments. "Testing" is often a practice adopted by teams such as: digital marketing teams, UX/CX teams, product teams, strategy teams, startups and innovation teams. Tests are used to gain data and insights to help people to understand a problem or opportunity better. They are essential to providing evidence to back up any decision. In recent times, it seems that every industry is trying to adopt this approach so they can be more customer-centric!

For the sake of this guide, let's pretend we're a computer manufacturing company called "Orange" who recently launched their new product "oPod".

Create a Test

In order to create a test, you will have to click on the green circle button the top right. You'll notice that there are three options to create an insight, test and research note. You can access this button from almost ever page. Once you click, a popup will come up to prompt you name your test.

Fill Out Details Of Your Test

After naming your test, you will be redirected to the following screen:

Notice that there are a few components of a test:

Track Your Test

Once you have everything ready, you can start your test and record any observations or insights! You can start your test by clicking the "start test" button on the top right of the page.

By starting a test, a timer will start recording how long your test is going for. This is mostly for documentation purposes.

Once you start a test, you can start recording your results. Your results include your observations or any insights that you want to record.

Complete Your Test

Woo! You've finally completed your test! To complete your test, just simply click the "Complete Test" button at the top right. One you click it, a popup will appear, prompting you to add an insight that is related to the test you just completed. Notice that even if you cancel the popup, it won't be marked as "Complete". At Nela, we believe that every test must have an insight, even if it is, by definition, a failed test.

Continue to add your test and fill out any information that may be necessary. You'll notice that it is now automatically linked to the insight, under "Related".
